Arion Productions Ltd was formed in 2012 by its current Artistic Director, Andrew Keates and former Executive Producer, Andrew Harmer, with the primary goal of presenting theatrical pieces based entirely on their artistic merit. At Arion, ‘the work’ is what matters the most.
Arion identified the difficulties facing the next generation of creative/production team members gaining practical experience, working with experienced professionals and getting that ‘first break’. As part of Arion’s mission statement, we always endeavor to encourage up-and-coming production team members, whether that be a recently graduated stage manager to a moderately experienced casting director. At Arion we believe the only effective way to learn, is by doing.
At Arion, we love discovering not only the latest talent, but casting forgotten performers and encouraging a rehearsal process where the old can learn from the young and visa versa. We never discriminate against a theatrical piece based on its form. The only thing we look for are works of great quality, whether they be a musical or a play, a piece of new writing or a long lost revival.
Previous productions include: The professional world premiere of A Winter’s Tale by Howard Goodall (Landor Theatre), Passing by, by Martin Sherman (Finborough and Tristan Bates Theatre), European premiere of Rooms: a rock romance by Paul Scott Goodman and Miriam Gordon (Finborough Theatre), As Is by William M. Hoffman (Finborough and Trafalgar Studios), the European premiere of Dessa Rose by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Trafalgar Studios) and the world premiere of The White Feather by Ross Clark (Union Theatre) and as associate producers, the European Premiere of Chinglish by David Henry Hwang (Park Theatre) and Steve Furst: In Character (Museum of Comedy, Astor Theatre, Tristan Bates Theatre).
In 2012, playwright and author Martin Sherman (Bent, When She Danced, Messiah, Rose, Mrs. Henderson Presents, Alive and Kicking) became a patron of Arion Productions and in 2016 he was joined by composer and broadcaster Howard Goodall CBE (The Hired Man, Lovestory, Bend It Like Beckham, Girlfriends).
In 2016 Arion launched a new masterclass programme called, Portfolio Masterclasses with many of the finest performers and theatre-makers providing their expertise. The masterclasses continue to this day.
